Christmas Wreath

Making your own Christmas Wreath

There's nothing like a Christmas wreath hanging on the front door for a warm season's greeting. Mix up traditional and contemporary: deck them out in flowers and fruit, or go glam with candles, silk and feathers.

Gather your ingredients. We love this mix of traditional berried ivy and snow berries with more unusual blue thistles and lilac freesias, all of which are readily available from your local florist. Add a touch of sparkle with plastic embroidery stones.

This wreath is simple to make using an oasis wreath frame, available from a florist or garden centre for around Lm1.75. Soak in water. Cut short stems (about 15cm) of the berried ivy and snow berries and fix into the oasis, enough to cover it. This forms a base for arranging other stems.

Intersperse short stems, again about 15cm in length, of thistles and freesias throughout the wreath. Build up the look until the wreath looks full and balanced. Finally, glue the embroidery stones onto the glossy ivy leaves using an all-purpose clear adhesive. Be generous with the stones – the more the twinklier!
