match report by Charlie Grech

Nadur Youngsters managed to go through to the Quarterfinals of the G.F.A. Cup at the expense of Victoria Hotspurs. In this hard fought match, the Youngsters opened with a pass from Marlow finding A. Portelli whose shot was just wide from an ideal position. Then it was M. Bonello who brought out two spectacular saves from Vella in the Hotspurs goal, from two free kicks from just outside the area. It was hard lines to J. Portelli Cauchi when the crossbar stopped his overhead kick. In the 38th minute Hotspurs went a man down when A. Muscat was sent off for his second bookable offence. From the resultant free kick Mario Bonello made no mistake and put the ball in the top left corner; 1-0 for the Youngsters. In the second half we saw a good reaction by Hotspurs and K. Vella had to be in top form to stop a shot by Mercieca. On the 65th minute it was Joseph Portelli Cauchi who took the ball just inside the Hotspurs half, beat 2 men and the goalie and made them 2-0 with a low shot. Again V. Egere called the Youngsters goalie into action to stop a tremendous shot. J. Portelli Cauchi could have made the score 3-0 but his shot went just wide in the 78th minute. But this was the prelude of the third goal for the whites. It was Joseph Portelli Cauchi, getting his personal second goal when the action of the second goal was repeated. Good game for Portelli Cauchi. C. Hili had two shots from outside the area, which went wide in the closing minutes of the game. In the Quarterfinals, Nadur Youngsters will play the winner of the match between Kercem Ajax and Oratory Youths on October 12th.
