commemorate the International Year of Eco-Tourism, this year’s
campaign also saw the introduction of a new category directed
towards the promotion of this important aspect in environment
management. The new category in respect of Valleys was won by
Mellieha’s Wied Gnien Ingraw followed by Nadur’s Wied ta’
Grejgel in second place. Although
coordinated by the Local Councils in a bid to upkeep their
respective localities, the campaign seeks
to encourage local councils, residents and commercial communities to
participate in an embellishment initiative of the locality where
they live or operate from. By participating in this campaign local
councils also had the opportunity to take part in the Sebbah
Pajjizek competitions with the opportunity to win monetary prizes. Sebbah
Pajjizek seeks to involve every single citizen since the environment
belongs to everybody and in this way each and every citizen can
contribute in his or her small way to make our country more
beautiful and cleaner. Another objective is to change the mentality
regarding civic pride, public cleanliness and the embellishment.
Sebbah Pajjizek also seeks to raise awareness on the importance of a
cleaner environment so that residents, tourists and future
generations alike, can enjoy it. The end of this campaign is not an
end in itself, but the beginning of a new mentality which promotes
the campaign’s slogan - a better locality, a better country. The
campaign is sponsored by Bank of Valletta, Middle Sea Valletta Life
Assurance, the Malta Tourism Authority, Maltapost, and Central
Cigarette Co Ltd. |
