Holly Buttigieg is Miss Malta in Canada [28/11/05]

Holly Buttigieg, daughter of Nadur migrants Charlie and Antoinette Buttigieg, has been recently crowned Miss Malta in Canada. Mr and Mrs Buttigieg grew up in Nadur but emigrated to Canada years ago and today they run the popular Malta Bake Shop in the heart of the Maltese community in Toronto. Charles and Antoinette have four children, two boys and two girls. Their daughter Holly will now represent the Maltese Canadian Community at a local beauty pageant to be held next summer.

Nadur mourns death of missionary [26/11/05]

Fr Karm Attard, a Salesian from Nadur who spent 72 years working among the missions in India, died in India on November 19 aged 94. He had originally gone to Bombay in December 1933 at the age of 22 and his first missionary work was in a village near the Himalayan mountains. He succeeded in setting up seven parishes with churches, a number of schools and orphanages in Marbisu, Mairang, Nongstoin, Sonapahar, Rangblang, Mawkyrwat and Nongkwar, with the assistance of Maltese and Gozitan benefactors. Mgr Martin Portelli is Naduri of the Year [20/11/05]

Mgr Martin Portelli won this year's Gieh in-Nadur Award. The Nadur Local Council presents the award every year. The judging panel was made up of a group of Nadurin, who evaluated all nominations received by the Local Council. Mayor Dr Chris Said handed the award to Mgr Portelli during a ceremony held at the MBC Theatre to mark Nadur Day. Mgr Portelli has recently donated all his compositions to Nadur's Parish Church.

Three main targets for Local Council [18/11/05]

The Nadur Local Council has earmarked the landscaping of the Qortin quarry; the new football ground at Xandriku Street and the facelift of December 13th Street as its new priorities for the coming months, Mayor Dr Chris Said said while addressing a public discussion held at Nadur’s Primary School. During the discussion Dr Said gave a detailed account of the Local Council's work. The long list of projects completed by Nadur's Local Council includes the resurfacing of 37 roads, the restoration of two towers and the opening of four new recreational zones.

Naduri is best E-Journalist of the Year [16/11/05]

June29th.com's editor Pierre J. Mejlak won the award for Malta's best E-Journalist. The Malta Journalism Awards were announced on Monday during a ceremony held at the Audio Vision Centre in Hamrun. The MaltaMedia News team was awarded the second prize, while Dr Robert Micallef was third. Mejlak won with his interviews with the former President of the European Commission Romano Prodi; an interview with Jens-Peter Bonde, MEP and chairman of the euro-critic Group for a Europe of Democracies and Diversities; and other reports he sent from Brussels in 2004.

Nadur celebrates St Coronato's feast [13/11/05]

Nadur celebrated its second feast, St Coronato's, on Sunday with a High Mass, led by Archpriest Saviour Muscat, and a procession. Nadur’s community radio station, Radju Luminaria, streamed live all the activities. For many crib-enthusiasts St Coronato’s feast is the day to start building the traditional Christmas crib. The relics of Roman martyr St Coronato, which were brought over from Rome, are conserved at Nadur's Basilica. Click here for a set of file photos.

Nadur LC launches Carnival 2006 events [12/11/05]

The Nadur Local Council has announced the program of events marking Carnival 2006. Next year's carnival will be held between Saturday February 18th and February 28th. The Miss Nadur Carnival beauty pageant will be held at La Grotta Complex during a special Carnival night. The Sunday Carnival show will be held on February 29th, one week before Carnival Sunday. The Children's Carnival will be held on Friday 24th at noon, while a Carnival Ball in Nadur's pjazzetta will be held that same evening. Nadur's famous spontaneous carnival will take place from Friday 24th till Tuesday 28th. The Nadur Local Council has invited the Gmendr Gassafetza Band from Germany to take part in the celebrations.
