sighted near Nadur
[14/11/04]
A
huge tornado was sighted close to Nadur on Saturday, November 13, at
around 1030 CET. Architect Edward Scerri shot the photo shown on the
left. There were no reports of injured persons or damage to
property. Mark Vella Gera of the Malta Weather Services said the
tornado was caused by rather unstable weather which made its way to
the central Mediterranean on Saturday morning. The maximum

Local Council turns eleven [10/11/04]
The
Nadur Local Council will soon be marking its eleventh anniversary.
The first Nadur Local Council was set up on November 20th, 1993.
Since then Nadur was headed by three different Mayors: Joe Tabone,
Eucharist Camilleri and Dr Chris Said. A special week of events to
mark the anniversary includes an art and photo exhibition, a public
debate, a sports day, a mini-council session, a street party, an
outing for the elderly and a special show at the MBC Theatre. The Gieh
in-Nadur award will this year be handed to Michael Grima, who
donated his maritime museum to Nadur's Parish Church. Visit the
regularly-updated Local Council website
for further details.

The
Naduri who does art with passion
[08/11/04]
When
you are an artist and have a passion for art flowing through your
veins, being self-critical about your work is the only way to
improve your art. And if you want to meet a classic example of this
adage, all you have to do is meet Fr Charles Vella, a Naduri who
lives in St Ursula Street, Valletta. Fr Vella studied art
restoration in Italy and restored a number of important paintings
found in private collections as well as large works located in
churches. But besides being a restorer and an artist, Fr Vella has
recently started experimenting with terracotta figures, making
pasturi, crib figures, but instead of sticking to the old Maltese
traditional style, he began making them in the Neapolitan way,
making heads, legs and arms from special clay, hollowing out the
clay and then baking them.
