Nadur and Valletta to work closer during convention
[22/05/05]
Nadur's spontaneous carnival and the
Valletta carnival
characterised by colourful floats will come together this week for
the silver jubilee convention of the Foundation of European Carnival
Cities.
Nadur
and Valletta have co-participated in carnival for many years and
will get the opportunity to work even closer together during this
nine-day FECC Convention, during which 450 delegates from various
European destinations will be experiencing the Nadur Carnival,
Valletta Mayor Paul Borg Olivier said. Speaking during a press
conference at the Cafe Premier in Valletta on Saturday he also added
that the Valletta and Nadur councils would be signing a co-operation
agreement ensuring better communication between the city and the
village.
Nadur Mayor Dr Chris Said explained that it was not easy for
Nadur, a town of 5,000 people to take on such a project. He said he
is confident that it will be a most successful event. Click

'Nymphs'
serve new wine
[14/05/05]
The Marsovin Group has launched the first Gozitan Syrah, called
Ulysses in honour of the hero of Greek mythology who symbolised
determination, conviction and the will to reach predetermined
objectives. The premium wine is a 2004 vintage produced from a yield
of 15,224 kilos of handpicked Syrah grapes, harvested in seven
selected family vineyards. The majority of the vineyards are found
at Ramla Valley, situated between Nadur and Xaghra. They are
overlooked by Calypso's Cave, in which the mythological hero was
believed to have spent seven years with the nymph Calypso, according
to Homer's Odyssey. The first vintage produced just 16,320 bottles.

Young Naduri elected KSU chief
[08/05/05]
Naduri
Anthony Fisher Camilleri is the new President of the University
Students Council (KSU). He will start his one-year term on June 1st.
Addressing the press at the council's launch, Anthony Fisher
Camilleri
said the student organisation has come a long way since 1901. "But
this does not mean that its original scope and purpose have been
lost in the process. Rather, the former has broadened, as KSU now
represents over 9,000 members, while the latter has been
strengthened by challenge after challenge."

LC against AFM erecting towers at San Blas
[07/05/05]
The
Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) has applied to erect a number of
communication towers at its base in San Blas, Nadur. The Nadur Local
Council believes there is no need for such towers as the apparatus
to be placed on these towers can be installed on other
already-existing towers in Gozo. In a meeting held this week with
San Blas residents, the Nadur Local Council launched a petition to
be presented to the relevant authorities. The Local Council will
also appoint two experts to conduct a technical report showing that
the erection of these towers could be put aside.

Alfred Sant talks of his walk in Nadur
[07/05/05]
In
his weekly column on The Times on Saturday, Labour leader
Alfred Sant talked of a recent walk he enjoyed in a valley in Nadur.
"It is breathtakingly beautiful," he wrote. "We walked down to its
floor into a big range (by Maltese standards) of citrus orchards,
all surrounded by lines of bamboo windbreaks, which somehow reminded
me of scenes from Polanski's film classic Chinatown. Scores of trees
still carried the lemons of the past season, even as others were
bursting into white flower. Two families live here as full time
cultivators; beyond the orange and lemon groves, they hold
additional swathes of land where they grow vegetables."
