Youngsters win Freedom Cup [31/03/05]

Nadur Youngsters underlined their good form by landing the Freedom Day Cup at the expense of Zebbug Rovers. This cup is contested by the champions and winners of the GFA Cup of the previous season. The 2-1 success brought Nadur their second trophy of the season after they won the Independence Cup. Nadur enjoyed the best scoring opportunities late in the first half through Aldrin Muscat and Eric Nkwanko. Thirteen minutes into the second half, Zebbug had Jude Utulu dismissed for a foul on Camilleri. Nadur took advantage of their extra player on the field to open the scoring in the 67th minute through Nkwanko's tap-in following an attempt by Muscat. The Youngsters sealed their victory when Alex Simoncic doubled their lead with eight minutes of the game remaining. Zebbug scored a consolation goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time through a direct free-kick by Peter Ohaka. (source: timesofmalta.com)

Three new faces for Nadur's Local Council [13/03/05]

On Saturday the Nadurin elected Dr Chris Said, Maria Natoli, Jonathan Buttigieg, Miriam Portelli and Andrew Muscat to form Nadur’s fifth Local Council. While Dr Said and Portelli were re-elected, Natoli, Buttigieg and Muscat were elected for the first time. The Nationalist Party, with three candidates elected, won 1,618 votes. The Labour Party had two of its candidates elected, and won 902 votes. Alternattiva Demokratika's candidate claimed 70 votes and failed to be elected. Both the Nationalist Party and the Labour Party increased their support in Nadur, with 5.3% and 2.4% respectively. Click here for the offical results.

Crushing victory for Dr Chris Said [13/03/05]

Dr Chris Said has been re-elected mayor of Nadur with a staggering 1,041 first count votes, setting a new record for local elections in Gozo. "We can look forward to the future," Dr Said told june29th.com as he claimed victory Saturday night. "I am grateful to all Nadurin for this overwhelming level of support. I promise to keep giving all my very best to this town we all love." Dr Said, who has been Nadur’s mayor for the past six years, will enter his third term backed by 40% of all valid votes. On Saturday Dr Said was the third most successful contestant nationwide.

It's Election Day [12/03/05]

All eligible voters residing in Nadur are being called to head to the polls to elect Nadur's fifth local council. The Nadurin are voting at Racecourse Street's Primary School. Polling booths opened at 0700 CET on Saturday and will remain open until 1900 CET. All ballot boxes will be then taken to the Gozo Sports Complex in Victoria for the counting process. The first projections are expected on Saturday at around 2230 CET. Official results will be announced on Sunday morning. Eleven Nadurin are contesting Saturday's election: Toni Falzon (AD), Andrew Muscat, Marlene Muscat, Miriam Portelli, Dr Chris Said, Jeremy Vella, Raymond Vella (PN), Jonathan Buttigieg, Joe Camilleri, Carmel Mifsud and Maria Natoli (MLP). Only five will be elected.
