The people of Nadur are enthusiastically preparing to celebrate Mnarja, the feast of St Peter and St Paul, on June 29th. Mnarja is rooted in Maltese culture and tradition. Meanwhile, Nadur's community radio station, Radju Luminaria, is being streamed live on the internet all day long with the new Mnarja schedule. The daily programs start at 0800 CET and wrap up late at night. Nadur hosts biggest ever FECC convention [10/06/05]

The Nadur Local Council has been showered with praise for the way it hosted the Silver Jubilee Convention of the Federation of European Carnival Cities (FECC). The convention was held between May 28th and June 5th, attracting hundreds of people. A whole set of convention photos are available on the Nadur Local Council's website. Meanwhile, writing on The Sunday Times on June 12th Joe Camilleri of Missisauga, Ontario, said Nadur and its 4,000 inhabitants should be very proud of this great feat. "It goes to show that ingenuity, dedication and resourcefulness - and not necessarily size - contribute to success." Writing on the same newspaper on that same day, Fr Joseph Rapa of Nadur said he still finds it difficult to understand how a thanksgiving Mass could be held at Nadur, as part of the FECC Convention program. Fr Rapa asked whether the celebration of that Mass at Nadur's church helped to achieve the building of the Body of Christ or else to give a boost to Nadur's Carnival. He wrapped up his letter by thanking a Nadur LC delegation at a previous FECC Convention in Europe for portraying "our townsfolk as the inhabitants of a primitive African village".

Cardinal says Carnival is a Christian feast [02/06/05]

Cardinal Adrianus Johannes Simonis, currently in Nadur, said Carnival is a Christian feast and, if it is inspired in a Christian way, it is very important to care for native values. The Netherlands' only cardinal is currently taking part in the 25th Federation of European Carnival Cities International Convention being held in Nadur until Saturday. In an interview with The Times of Malta, he explains why he has voted in favour of the EU Constitution unlike the majority of his countrymen. He also says he was expecting an Italian to be elected Pope and described April's two-day conclave as "an amazing process". Click here to read the interview.

Protected birds illegally shot in Nadur [02/06/05]

How sad. A flock of ten honey buzzards that reached Gozo late Thursday afternoon were shot by illegal hunters in several locations, BirdLife Malta said in a statement. A number of honey buzzards were shot close to Ramla Valley in Nadur as the birds were probably seeking a roosting place for the night. Later in the evening more shots were fired near San Blas and Dahlet Qorrot in Nadur. BirdLife Malta is demanding continued patrols to control such abuse. The hunting season was supposedly closed on May 23.
