Nadur witnesses first tomato-war  [26/07/04]

Tens of people took part in a tomato-war held on Sunday afternoon in a field close to Dahlet Qorrot Bay. The tomato-war was organised as part of this year's Summerfest, the annual weekend of party at Dahlet Qorrot Bay. Participants were divided into two groups and each group had thousands of tomatoes to shoot at the other. Meanwhile, june29th.com's tomato-war story sparked a debate between two of Malta's most renowned anthropologists, with Dr Vicki Ann Cremona saying she has problems with people taking up traditions that were never theirs, and Ranier Fsadni claiming that when traditions are borrowed they are transferred to a different context and it's better to focus on whether the borrowing is creative or dull. For the maddened people hurling tomatoes at point blank on Sunday, it surely wasn't dull. Click here for photos.

photo by Philip CassarThe Gozo Football Association has chosen Naduri Charles Hili as Gozo's most promising player for season 2003-04. Charles was born on August 29th, 1986 and made his debut for Nadur Youngsters FC on October 5th, 2002 in the match against Xaghra United. Although he has been covering the midfield since he was very young, he has proved himself capable of other important positions in the field. During the last season, Charles changed his position on numerous occasions, each time giving his utmost and winning the admiration of supporters and sport commentators. Charles has so far scored four goals for Nadur Youngsters and the whites won the game each time he scored. "I am very delighted to win this award," Charles told june29th.com. "However, this success would not have been possible without the help of my team-mates and coaches, to whom I owe a lot."
