Bronze
Age settlement in Nadur? [06/10/03]
The
discovery of what was suspected to be an olive crusher dating back
to Roman times on the outskirts of Nadur has led to a more
interesting archeological find: a possible Bronze Age settlement. A
large round stone, initially believed to be an olive crusher, is now
thought to have been a grain crusher or flour mill. Lino Bugeja, of
Marsascala, who had seen the stone embedded in a rubble wall, last
Saturday accompanied George Azzopardi, the acting curator of the
Gozo Archaeology Museum, and Nadur councillor Ruben Curmi to
indicate the site to them.
Early
indications point to a Bronze Age settlement, which could date back
to around 1500 BC.

Parents
worried as classrooms get too crowded
[03/10/03]
A
number of Nadur parents have contacted june29th.com expressing their
concern over the fact that Primary School classrooms are becoming
more and more crowded. Last year there were three Year 2 classrooms.
For some reason this year there are only two Year 3 classrooms with
27 pupils in each class. The classrooms at the Nadur
Primary School are smaller than the standard 30-pupil
classrooms. The standard classrooms measure 8 metres squared, while
those at Nadur’s Primary School are not even six metres squared.
The classrooms have now also been equipped with computers, making
the environment extremely crowded for both the students and their
teachers.
When contacted, Malta Union of Teachers officials told june29th.com
that the government seems to be preferring to have fewer classes
with more students instead of more classes with fewer children where
they could be given more individual attention.
