Possible Roman olive press found in rubble wall
[25/09/03]
What could be part of an olive press dating back to Roman
times has been discovered embedded under a high rubble wall on the
outskirts of Nadur, The Times reported. The press
was discovered by Lino Bugeja, of Marsascala, while walking down the
winding road to Ramla bay last week. Mr Bugeja told The Times he was convinced the large round stone was a press because
it was practically identical in shape and size to the existing olive
press at the Archaeology Museum in Gozo. The one in the museum was
one of two found in Xewkija. Click here for a full report.

Lee
Ryan Miller enjoys Il-Hbieb Isejhu adaptation
[23/09/03]
The
internet is a fascinating medium. It
has revolutionized communications and brought people from all over
the world much closer together. This week brought with it a perfect
example. Highly-respected author
Lee Ryan Miller sent us an e-mail
stating how pleased he was to discover an adaptation of one of his
stories in the September issue of Il-Hbieb
Isejhu. His story, Who You
are Speaks Louder to Me Than Anything You Can Say, which can be
read in Maltese in this month's Il-Hbieb Isejhu, will also reappear in Lee Miller's fifth book, Teaching Amidst The Neon Palm
Trees, a memoir about his teaching experiences at a community
college in Las Vegas.

oil pressing machine in Nadur
[13/09/03]
An
olive oil pressing machine will be available at the Ta' Kenuna Tower
in Nadur every Sunday during October. All Nadur farmers are being
invited to snatch the opportunity and have their very-own olive oil.
"The service will be offered free of charge. However, 20% of
all olive oil will be kept by the person owning the machine,"
Nadur local councillor Ruben Curmi, in charge of rural development,

Nadur to hold Gozo's
first Car Free Day
[10/09/03]
There
will be no cars nor motorcycles passing through Nadur's main road,
December 13th Street, on September 22nd. Nadur will on that day join
the hundreds of European Cities marking Car Free Day. In 2002, the
European Mobility Week already succeeded in establishing itself as a
truly European initiative with 320 cities from 21 countries
participating. It is an opportunity for all participating
cities to show how matters related to the environment concern them.
Presenting our urban centres in a different light for one day by
restricting motorised traffic in certain areas, encouraging the use
of sustainable modes of transport and raising awareness for the
environmental impacts of citizens' modal choice, are the key types
of actions implemented by the local authorities. A sports festival
will be held at December 13th Street in the afternoon.
