Primary School now has its own state-of-the-art multi-purpose hall,
with the latest audio and visual facilities. The inauguration
ceremony was held on Thursday morning under the patronage of Gozo

Sprightly Youngsters
win Super Cup!
[28/05/03]
After winning the Freedom Cup, the Gozo Championship
and the Noel Vassallo Cup, a dynamic Nadur Youngsters claimed the
Super Cup on Wednesday! Xewkija Tigers, eager to close their season
in a decent way, opened the score in the first minutes. They even
managed to defend their one-goal lead for the first half of the
match. Then things got brighter for the whites. Chris Camilleri
(51st) levelled the score and Edoardo do Nascimento (63rd)
established the Youngsters-lead. The Youngsters could have made them
3-1 towards the end of the match but Anthony Portelli wasn’t lucky
enough when the ball crashed against the post. The whites kept the
lead even with nine players on pitch, after Immanuel Muscat and Chris
Camilleri were shown the red card. Click here for photos.
The whites will be wrapping up a memorable season
next Sunday with the GFA Cup final against Ghajnsielem.

Corkskrew
to perform live at Nadur
[27/05/03]
Corkskrew, one of a number
of local bands riding the crest of what can be described as a
resurgence of traditional rock in Malta, will be performing live at Nadur on June 20th. Nadur will on
that day be celebrating Youth Day in front of the Youth Centre.
Forget the folkloristic 'throw the balloon' game this year...
Corkskrew are set to bring colour and energy! This time last year Corkskrew released the single
"Another Day", which preceded the launch of the band's
debut CD album "Micromania". Singles such as "Another
Day", "Love & Paradise", "Spyro Gyra"
and "Superstar" featured prominently in the charts
of local radio stations. Corkskrew are currently working on new
material, some of which will be performed in June 20th's gig.

Whites
win Noel Vassallo Cup
[25/05/03]
The
newly-crowned Gozo Champions Nadur Youngsters seem to be determined
not to leave anything behind! A victory against Zebbug Rovers on
Sunday was no easy task. In fact 120 minutes were not enough for the
whites to snatch the Noel Vassallo Cup as the Gozo Stadium
scoreboard was still reading a 2-2 score. The whites went two goals
ahead in the first 30 minutes with goals by Edoardo do Nascimento
(23rd) and Chris Camilleri (30th). Yet the Rovers surprised the
crowd with two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half.
Teddie
Bajada's boys combined graft with craft to dominate considerable
swathes of possession against an eager Rovers side. A final match
sealed with penalty shoot-outs (8-7) may have been a cruel blow to Zebbug
Rovers, but it definitely rewarded the most enterprising team. Click
here for
photos.
There
are two more important final games
ahead as the whites will be facing Xewkija Tigers for the Super Cup on May 28th and
Ghajnsielem FC for the GFA Cup on June 1st.

Youngsters
move on to Noel Vassallo Cup Final
[18/05/03]
Nadur Youngsters strolled to a 4-0 victory over Xewkija Tigers on
Sunday and are now prepared to face Zebbug Rovers for the Noel
Vassallo Cup final. Zebbug Rovers surprisingly eliminated
Ghajnsielem FC with a 2-0 score on Sunday.
Just
four days following a 7-0 victory over Xaghra United in the Noel
Vasssallo Cup Quarter Finals, the Gozo champions showed they are
still hungry for more! The Youngsters moved to a three-goal lead in
the first half with goals by Mark Buttigieg (20th), Chris Camilleri
(26th) and Edoardo do Nascimento (32nd). Bizu, then,
rubber-stamped the victory on the 65th minute. Click here
for photos.
Meanwhile,
the Youngsters are now preparing to face Zebbug Rovers for the Super
Cup semi-final next Wednesday. If the Youngsters win the encounter,
they will have to play three finals: Noel Vassallo Cup against
Zebbug Rovers on May 25th, Super Cup against Ghajnsielem or Xewkija
on May 28th and GFA Cup against Ghajnsielem on June 1st.
The
Youngsters are expected to wrap up the memorable 2002/2003 season
with a friendly match against Premier League Champions Sliema
Wanderers at the Gozo Stadium.

Naduri
in Australia expresses concern for lack of interest
[15/05/03]
Peter
Paul Portelli, President of the Nadur Australian Association, is
concerned by the lack of interest being shown by the Nadurin in
Australia for the upcoming Mnarja Church celebrations. “Many
Nadurin in Australia have become strangers in a strange culture,”
Peter Paul Portelli told june29th.com. “It is very disappointing
to meet fellow Nadurin in Australia telling you they are not
interested in the feast of St Peter and St Paul. It’s a shame.
Especially when one realizes that these people lived in Nadur.”
Peter Paul Portelli vented out his frustration at the poor
attendance for the special Solemn Mass which is organized every year
to mark the feast of St Peter and St Paul. “While many Nadurin in
Australia pack a Church for a funeral service, only a handful of
them participate in the Mnarja Church-celebration. “Almost 400
Nadurin enjoy the Mnarja Dinner Dance but less than a dozen attend
the celebrations in the church,” a disappointed Peter Paul
Portelli told june29th.com.
Meanwhile,
the Nadur Australian Association has just completed its latest
project: a Bishop’s throne and a set of candle holders. Click here

Should
San Blas go commercial?!
[13/05/03]
A commercial advert has recently been installed at San
Blas Bay. Besides being an eyesore - set against the natural
settings of the beach – the advert heralds the commencement of
commercial ventures on the beach. Nature Trust (Malta) confirmed
with june29th.com that such ventures, as the one advertised on the
bill board, generate large amounts of waste ending eventually on the
beach. “Rather than advertising commercial interests, such signs
should state that swimming is not advisable at San Blas Bay due to
the sewage outfall nearby,” Nature Trust said.

Vandals
strike at pjazzetta
[10/05/03]
There
seems to be no end to vandal attacks in Nadur. Following vandal
strikes at San Blas Garden a few weeks ago, unknown persons have
destroyed a Lm400 cast iron sign at Archpriest Martin Camilleri
Square, bearing the name of Nadur's pjazzetta. The vandal attack took place
during the night between Friday and Saturday. It is indeed sad to
see that not everyone appreciates the excellent work being carried
out by the Nadur Local Council. The Council has already deplored and
condemned the vandal attack and is urging all those who have any
information to call at the Council’s office.

Youngsters
to face Ghajnsielem in GFA Cup final
[08/05/03]
Nadur Youngsters
will be facing Ghajnsielem FC in this year's GFA Cup final. The
whites moved on to the last phase of the competition after beating
Zebbug Rovers in a baffling semi-final on Thursday afternoon.
Edoardo do Nascimento’s golden goal following 105 minutes
unbalanced the score and paved the way for the whites to move on.
Following the first 90 minutes, the Youngsters and the Rovers were
still neck to neck on a 1-1 score. Bizu opened the score for the
whites early in the first half, with the Rovers finding the net late
in the second half. The whites must now gear up to face the blacks
in a few days time.
Meanwhile, a
championship celebration BBQ will be held in front of the
Youngsters’ club on Friday. There will also be Mike Spiteri,
Stephen Mizzi, the Happy Dancers and more entertainers!

Mario Bonello ten minutes afterwards. Edoardo do Nascimento (Bizu)
made them three on the 81st minute. Championships are there to be
won and victories are meant to be celebrated. The Youngsters

Less
than two months to go for big day
[01/05/03]
The
people of Nadur will be celebrating Mnarja
in less than two months time! The Church, the Mnarja Band, the Local
Council and all feast-organizations are preparing to make Mnarja
2003 another special feast. Meanwhile,
the Local Council's sub-committee responsible for the Mnarja
activities met last Tuesday and discussed a number of activities
which are organized every year by the Local Council, including the
Agricultural Show, the Ikla Tradizzjonali, the horse races
and the annual special band concert organized together with the
Mnarja Band Committee. Many of our friends from Cicciano, the
Italian town twinned with Nadur, have already booked their flight
and will also be enjoying Mnarja with us!
