Events throughout the year in Nadur

There's always something interesting going on in Nadur. Here are the most popular events organized in Nadur during the year.


February               

It's Carnival time! Carnival Week is undoubtedly one of the most colourful events in the Maltese calendar. Traditionally preceding Lent, Carnival provides five days of revelry with many dressing up in colourful costumes and covering their faces with masks in the many towns and villages. 

Thousands of people, from all over the islands, together with numerous tourists, spend the weekend in Nadur to enjoy its unique celebrations. The Federation of European Carnival Cities has chosen Nadur to be The World's Carnival City between 2004 and 2005.


March / April         

Good Friday and Easter. Good Friday week is an interesting time in Nadur! Many tourists and Maltese people come over to our town to enjoy the Basilica, the whole-set of Good Friday statues, the procession and numerous exhibitions around the town. 

Official celebrations start on Palm Sunday, a week before Easter. The Good Friday procession is the biggest religious manifestation of Holy Week. On this day Nadur is turned into Roman and Jewish pageantry.


June

One of the busiest months in Nadur. The Nadurin celebrate Mnarja on June 29th - the feast of St Peter and St Paul. The streets are all decorated for the feast and there is a special activity every day: the Mnarja Band annual concert; horse races; rock concert; children's activity, Mnarja folk evening, agricultural show and many more. 

It's the best time of the year to visit Nadur and live a traditional Maltese festa.


July                           

Summer Fest. A whole week of activities at Dahlet Qorrot Bay organized by the Nadur Youngsters FC and the Nadur Local Council. There are various games throughout the day, discos, tombola, country music and much more. All this in one of Gozo' most beautiful bays.

ZghazaghFest. The Nadur Youth Centre organizes a week-long youth gathering year in year out. Several youth-oriented activities are organized during this week.


August                    

Classic Wine Festival. The Nadur Local Council together with Delicata Wine Makers organize the annual Classic Wine Festival at Fatima Street Garden. The best opportunity to taste and compare the numerous grape varieties grown in Malta and Gozo and savour Maltese gastronomic delicacies specifically chosen to complement the wines. 

Anniversary Week. The MUSEUM (boys) branch commemorate their anniversary. A week of events include a sports day, a huge party, meetings for youths and parents, Mass and an open-air play.


September                    

Military Vehicles Exhibition. During the first weekend of September Nadur's pjazzetta brings back lots of memories for all those who lived the second World War. All those who visit the exhibition can admire vintage motorcycles, cars and military equipment. The military vehicles exhibition is organized every year running by the Military Vehicles Club Gozo in collaboration with Nadur's Local Council. 


November              

Nadur Day. November 20th is Nadur Day. The Local Council organizes several activities to commemorate this day. New projects are also inaugurated to mark the event. Besides organizing Nadur Day, the Local Council organizes a number of activities throughout the year, ranging from entertaining evenings at different areas of the town, special outings and educational and cultural tours. Nadur is twinned with Cicciano (Naples) and Baveno (Milan).


December

Christmas. As all other parts of the world, Nadur has its own Christmas traditions and festivities. Thanks to the Church, the MUSEUM and other organizations the Christmas spirit lives on in our town year after year. Looking back through the years, one cannot but observe that Christmas-related activities are on the increase.

The traditional Christmas procession goes round Nadur on Christmas Eve. The Society for Christian Doctrine invites all Nadurin for the Christmas show on Christmas Day, where children sing several Christmas songs, recite poems, act plays and entertain the public.
