E-Card # 004
Since the 12th century the Catholic Church marked the 18th November as the anniversary of the consecration of the two Basilicas built on the tombs of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Rome. By passing of time, this anniversary became a feast in honour of the two Saints. The Basilica of San Pietro in the Vatican City and that of San Paolo Fuori le Mura in Rome are two of the four principal Basilicas of the Catholic Church. They are called Patriarchal Basilicas with their main altar reserved only for the Pope to celebrate mass. These two Basilicas are reproduced in painting at Nadur's Basilica and can be seen at each side of the titular painting of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. publishing date: 18th November, 2003 |
