During
the 2002 Agricultural Fair at Nadur, many visitors were literally
amazed by a wooden replica of Nadur's Basilica. The replica was
built by a Gozitan man, Anthony Agius, and has now been donated to
Nadur's Church.
Anthony
Agius was born in Ghajnsielem on November 2nd 1932. At the age of
21 he left Malta end emigrated to USA. He returned to his homeland
after three years and married Censa Camilleri from Nadur.
He
spent a month living at Old Mill Street in Nadur, until he left
for 37 years in USA.
On
returning to Gozo in 1993, Anthony started building
Church-replicas. His first project was that of the Ghajnsielem
Church. On September 1st, 2001, he started building a replica of
Nadur's Basilica. He spent hours studying the Nadur Church,
carefully examining each corner of the Basilica. All work was
completed by August 10th 2002.
Anthony
is
currently working on another Church-replica, that of the Ta' Pinu
Basilica.
