match
report by Charlie Grech
Nadur
took some sort of revenge over Kercem Ajax after the defeat in the
Independence Cup. The Youngsters had a very good game and took their
chances pretty well. The whites had a chance to go into the lead in
the 8th minute but M. Marlow saw his header going just wide of the
far post. J. Portelli Cauchi
was unlucky to hit wide from a good position.
Kercem, without some of the first team players missing, were
finding the going tough as Nadur's defense controlled their
strikers, Dragonov and Sylvester, very well.
Another physical game and it was from a free kick, after a
foul on J. Portelli C. that Nadur opened the score in the 22nd
minute. Mario Bonello’s direct free kick found the back of the net
with goalie Attard helpless. Kercem
tried to react but it was Nadur that doubled the score in the 39th
minute. A. Portelli’s long
cross found Joseph Portelli Cauchi who beat two men on the run and
calmly put the ball in the net.
That’s how it finished at half time.
In the second half it was the same story with very little
direct shots on goal, though Dragonov saw his shot going wide off
the upright in the 65th minute.
Nadur Youngsters will now face Xaghra United in the semi
final on New Year’s Day.
